Not quite yet.

Watercourse is still in development, so there is nothing here to install today. What is here instead is what it will ask of your machine, so you know now rather than at launch.

See what it is for

One app, three platforms

The studio itself is the same everywhere. Two things are not, and they are worth knowing before you plan around them.

macOS

  • macOS 13 or later for system audio capture
  • The only platform with the virtual camera

In development

Windows

  • System audio capture supported
  • No virtual camera

Linux

  • System audio capture not supported
  • No virtual camera

Requirements, without the small print

macOS, Windows and Linux

One desktop app, the same studio on all three.

System audio capture

Requires macOS 13 or later, or Windows.

Camera and microphone permissions

Requested on first use, by your operating system.

A phone as a camera needs only wifi

The app serves the page itself, so the phone shows a certificate warning once and never again.

The virtual camera is macOS only

It installs a camera extension macOS asks you to approve once, and the app has to be in your Applications folder.

Guests need a server you run

A small rendezvous service, and a TURN server for guests outside your network. It ships in the repository, and no audio or video passes through it.
