Buy it once, or don't buy it at all.
No subscription, no account, and nothing of yours held anywhere you cannot reach. The model is settled. The number is not, and we would rather say so than make one up.
What is settled
- No subscription
- Watercourse is a desktop app you run. It is not a seat you rent, and it does not stop working at the end of a month.
- A free tier that is worth using
- Not a watermarked trial that expires. The intent is that a lot of people never need to pay at all.
- Pro is a one-time purchase
- You buy the app once. What happens after that is up to you, not to whether a card on file is still valid.
- No account to create
- Nothing to sign up for, nothing stored in a cloud, no upload queue. Your recordings are files in a folder you chose.
What is not settled yet
Two things: exactly where the line falls between free and pro, and what the one-time purchase costs. Watercourse is still in development, and a number announced before it is decided is worth nothing to you. Join the waitlist and you will hear both before launch, with enough notice to decide.
Common questions
- Is Watercourse free?
- There will be a free tier, and the intent is that it covers what most people need rather than acting as a demo. The exact split between free and pro is not settled yet.
- Is it a subscription?
- No. Pro is a one-time purchase. There is no monthly or annual plan, and no per-seat pricing.
- How much does it cost?
- The price is not fixed yet. Watercourse is still in development, and announcing a number before it is decided would be worth nothing to you. Everyone on the waitlist hears it before launch.
- What happens to my recordings if I stop paying?
- Nothing. There is nothing to stop paying, and your recordings were never held anywhere but your own disk. They are ordinary MP4 files in a folder you picked, playable in anything.
- Do I need an account?
- No. There is no sign-up, no login and no cloud storage. Compositing, background replacement, audio mixing and encoding all happen on your machine.
- Which platforms is it available on?
- macOS, Windows and Linux. Two features are narrower: system audio capture needs macOS 13 or later, or Windows, and the virtual camera is macOS only.
- Is there a trial?
- The free tier serves that purpose. You will not need to enter a card to find out whether the app suits you.
